Beaverbrook Together! A vibrant, inclusive, safe and healthy community.

Hearts and Hands

A representative from the Kanata Beaverbrook Community Association (KBCA) will be visiting your home in 2018 as part of a public relations pilot program to connect Beaverbrook community members with their KBCA and enhance the flow of two-way communication opportunities. The door-to-door visits will begin with Penfield Drive in early 2018.

The visit will take approximately 10 minutes of your time:

  • To collect the full name of one communication point person per home.
  • To collect an email address per home.
  • To collect a phone number per home.
  • To collect pertinent market research information related to potential volunteers and suggestions.
  • To develop a database for the information collected.
  • To invite residents to join the KBCA Facebook page.
  •  To provide residents with a contact person for the KBCA Public Relations program.

We will keep you updated throughout 2018 about the initiative through our online channels. You can help us and complete the survey online here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2P7Y9CL.

Communities united are communities who flourish! See you in 2018.

Hydro One is starting work this week and will be contacting individual home owners/residents for exact date/time for their properties starting today, Monday, Jan 29th

Actual maintenance is due to start on Jan 31st and proceed mostly on a street by street basis, but individual properties will be scheduled to accommodate home owners/residents, so expect to see Hydro One in your area for much of February.

The following is the planned order

  • Week Jan 31st – Carr, Tiffany
  • Week Feb 5th – Pentland, Borduas, Cody Way

Notes:

  • Work on Penfield and the “North West” Hydro One corridor is not yet in the planning stages. An update will be available on the plans by the end of March 2018
  • Work on City of Ottawa land in the "West" Hydro One corridor is still being negotiated with the City and no work will be done until agreement is reached

If there are questions or concerns the Hydro One contact is Ani Bekmezian – 1-877-345-6799

A public meeting was held on Oct 30, 2017 with an update from Hydro One on their plans for short (2018) and long term (to 2024) plans for Beaverbrook "Vegetation Management" in the Hydro corridor that borders the West side of Beaverbrook (bordering the Kanata Lakes Golf Course).  Hydro One will start consultations for work in Jan/Feb 2018 with affected home owners in coming weeks.

The KBCA directors and those community members - who have homes within the corridor - who participated in the discussions with Hydro One are pleased with the results, with Hydro One agreeing to all of the major proposals put forth by the KBCA/community member team with input from many of the families from the 124 affected homes.

A review of what has happened:

  • Starting in June, the KBCA has worked with Marianne Wilkinson, Terry Mathews & Community Members to research Hydro One and their clearing/trimming practices and to determine how to ensure that Hydro One follows a trimming strategy consistent with practices in 2012.
  • A core group including KBCA, Community Members, Marianne Wilkinson and Terry Mathews met with Senior Hydro One executives in Kanata on Aug 21st, where Hydro agreed to continue the 2012 trimming practices and to work with the Beaverbrook Community to find a better solution for the community.
  • Subsequent meetings have resulted in a proposal from Hydro One, which was well received by Beaverbrook residents in the Oct 30th public meeting.
Note: this proposal only applies to the West Beaverbrook Hydro One corridor. Hydro One has committed to providing a timeline for work on the North East Hydro One corridor (Lismer, Penfield) by the end of 2018 Q1 (March 1, 2018) and committed to a corridor specific meeting in that timeframe.
