Rideau Valley Open House - June 20

The Rideau Valley Wildlife Sanctuary in North Gower is holding an open house Saturday June 20 between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

The open house will include indoor tours, live music, programs for children and a barbecue with a choice of meat or vegan food.

Hugh Nelson - Citizen of the Year

 Citizen of the Year! Congratulations Hugh Nelson!

Hugh Nelson, the retiring Treasurer of the KBCA Community Association, was recently named “Citizen of the Year” at the Kanata North Community Recognition Awards.



Hugh is also the Executive Director of Ys Owl Maclure Co-operative Centre, a Co-op whose members include people with  developmental disabilities, autism and Asperger’s syndrome.

A volunteer and activist for people with disabilities, marginalized groups and seniors for the past 43 years, Hugh Nelson has been involved with several city-wide initiatives, including participating on the steering committee for Age Friendly Ottawa.

The KBCA is looking for a new Treasurer with the retirement of our current Treasurer, Hugh Nelson.

The KBCA Treasurer is an Executive role in the Community Association, with the primary role of Financial Advisor. This role is supported by the Community Centre Coordination Manager and a part-time Bookkeeper.

Informal Summer Soccer Fun

Want to play with your friends and neighbors? Let’s meet in the park!!!

Where: Soccer field at Stephen Leacock elementary school, 25 Leacock drive, Kanata

Who: Kids (U11/U12), Kids (U8/U9/U10), Kids (/U6/U7), Kids (U4/U5), Mom and Dad who love soccer

When: Every Tue 7:00-8:00PM, June 23rd to Aug 25th, 2015

Cost: Families take turns bringing fruit and freezies. We also need donation $5/player to cover the cost for field booking fee charged by City of Ottawa, first aid kit and cones for training.

Enjoy the benefits of cycling whatever your ability level or experience. Free Home Energy Assessments for Beaverbrook Homes

Sustain Beaverbrook and EnviroCentre are seeking ten homeowners in Beaverbrook who would like a free Home Energy Assessment valued at $350. The assessment will help you find the most cost-effective ways to save money, improve home comfort, and minimize the impact on the environment. We are seeking a variety of home models that have not previously had an assessment. The results for each model will be shared on the Sustain Beaverbrook website to encourage peer-to-peer learning. (All identifying information will be removed.) More information and application forms are available on the Sustain Beaverbrook and are due June 15th.
